Russell sees two more opportunities for Mercedes in 2022

George Russell has not yet given up on adding a Formula 1 Grand Prix to his list before the end of this 2022 season, although he acknowledges that it will not be easy.

Mercedes has stood on the top step of a Grand Prix podium at least once in every season in Formula 1 since 2012. And since the start of the hybrid era in 2014, the German automaker’s team has won an average of 14 Grand Prix per year.

However, this 2022 season, marked by the introduction of new technical regulations, could put an end to this long series of successes for the reigning world champions.

George Russell is well aware of this, but he is not giving up yet. He believes the Singapore and United States Grands Prix in Austin could smile on the Silver Arrows.

“Singapore could be interesting for us, although historically it is a circuit where Mercedes has always had a little problem” comments Russell, author of seven podiums in this 2022 season, as many as Charles Leclerc.

“We know that on the urban circuits this year we have not been very good. Then you never know when you’ll arrive in Singapore, this race is so hard and can be so unpredictable! »

“Otherwise, I’d say Austin is probably still our best shot this year.Russell adds. Austin might be a better track for us given the characteristics of our car, but we’ll have to wait until we get there to be sure. »
